We had a freezer that we bought from Sears a few years ago. It was a Kenmore, and it lasted less than a year before the compressor kicked.

I called a local appliance repair company for service who kindly informed me that the compressor was covered with a five-year warranty, but labor was not. He said that it would cost $150 for labor - we didn't pay much more than that for the freezer in the first place.

I will never buy another Kenmore appliance, you never know which crap company manufactures their stuff. it turns out this was an LG, which consistently gets the lowest ratings from Consumer reports on their large appliances. in short, LG is shit.

I am learning that you can maximize your profits from old scrap by taking a little time to butcher and separate the metals in old appliances.

Jojo, my neighbor across the street, was tossing an old window air conditioner unit. I took the compressor out of the freezer, and did the same with the AC unit. I cut the copper out, and turned what would have been $20 of scrap into over $50. Copper tubing is fetching $2.55 a lb. Aluminum and copper radiators get 75 cents a pound, and sheet aluminum is 55 cents.
