Scrapping - my first time

Scrappin’ – they made a TV show about it. I haven’t seen it, but I suppose if they are making shows about pawn shops and yard-sales they can do a show on scrapping.

I have not been to a recycle yard in ages – I think I was 19 years old the last time I did this. I am pushing 50, so it has been quite a while.

I had been saving aluminum cans for the last three years, putting them into garbage bags behind the shed. As my girlfriend and I are viciously cleaning house, tossing everything that we do not absolutely need, I balked at dragging a 100 pound file cabinet to the curb.

On trash day, metal items do not last on the curb for more than an hour, and I finally decided that of anybody was going to reap profits from my trash, it should be me.

I loaded the truck with three years worth of cans and the file cabinet, and some assorted iron rods that had been laying around. The trip to the scrap yard paid me almost $70. Scrap iron only gets 9 cents a pound, aluminum more than 50.
