You learn something new every day if you are not careful. Today I learned they do not accept microwaves or stereos.
Today I made two trips to the scrap yard.
The first trip they told me they didn't accept microwaves or stereo equipment. On the way home I stopped by my parent's house. My dad and I used to reload ammunition and do a lot of target shooting back in the day. He said he had about a hundred pounds of scrap lead int he basement.
I loaded up my truck, and it sure seemed like more than a hundred pounds. He had buckets of spent bullets that we used to sift out of the backstop at the range. He had two boxes filled with wheels weights from a local garage. He had lead ingot after lead ingot all ready for the casting pot.
I went home, broke out the tool box and spent time dismantling the stereo and microwave. I removed the offending circuit boards (they contain heavy metals, hence the ban) and ripped off aluminum heat sink fins, and separated the scrap by metal.
It paid off, the motors and aluminum upped the take by a few bucks. The lead came to 320 pounds, so even at 10 cents a pound, it was worth the trip.
