Yesterday I noted that one of the old time scrappers had brought in a tangled pile of extension cords and Christmas lights. Until this time, I was just leaving the power cords attached to the scrap.

Rule Number One, not only in scrapping, but in life in general: Always Pay Attention! I took notice and today I rounded up old electrical wire that I had laying around from old projects. I tossed in some defective extension cords that I intended to repair "some day". And I cut off the ccords from the old appliances I had picked up from the curb.

Insulated copper is going for 70 cents a pound. Better than 10 cents a pound for scrap. Electric motors fetch 15 cents. The bulk of course is what they call shredder feed, scrap iron. There is no need to take plastic or wood parts off - I was doing that in the beginning until I realized that nobody else was. Why create more work for myself and reduce the total weight at the same time?
